The essence of the Shambhala tradition is developing the confidence to trust in sacred world and basic goodness. In this series of talks, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche presents the Shambhala Buddhist path, which combines the indestructible view of the Buddha with the unwavering confidence of Shambhala. The Sakyong shows how the mindfulness and awareness of the Hinayana path, the compassion of the Mahayana path and the wisdom of the Vajrayana path bring inner peace and freedom from aggression.
Understanding the Three Yanas is essential if we want
to create an enlightened world. With the discipline of the Hinayana
path, we begin to realize who we are, including our potential and our
limitations, and we learn how to work with our disturbing emotions. By learning
the basics of how to eat, walk, talk and sleep properly, our view expands and
we start becoming decent human beings. From that we develop the Mahayana view
of being less ego centered, and we cultivate a genuine
appreciation of life and others. As we appreciate others more than ourselves,
we see reality with clarity and precision. Through clear seeing, we discover
basic goodness in ourselves, the ground for creating enlightened world. The
Vajrayana view then wakes us up to seeing sacred world in all situations.
In addition to dharma talks, the Sakyong leads guided practices of shamatha, contemplation and ground lungta (windhorse).
